Born 1961, he is the author of over thirty books on poetry and criticism. He teaches at the University of Pennsylvania. He is the founding editor of the extensive online archive of avant-garde poetries, UbuWeb, and is senior editor of PennSound, an online poetry archive. He was the first Poet Laureate of the MoMA (2013). In 2016 he published the book Wasting Time on the Internet, based on his class of creative writing at the University of Pennsylvania. This book shows how our time on the internet “is not really wasted but is quite productive and creative as Goldsmith puts the experience in its proper theoretical and philosophical context”.
