Born in Agrigento in 1949, he graduated from the Pisa Scuola Normale Superiore in 1972 under Aldo Giorgio Gargani and Nicola Baldoni. In 2000 he was instated as a Full Professor of History of Philosophy. A multifaceted scholar, he has dealt with the relationship between philosophy and anthropology as well as epistemology and the links between the natural sciences and historical and social sciences, investigating the themes of freedom, democracy, learning and representation from a cognitive point of view with a special focus on the themes of childhood. He also collaborates with “Il Manifesto” and with other newspapers and magazines.
